I recently stumbled upon this photo, taken around 1991 at 5 Renjer Regiment, Bau Camp, Sarawak, where I served from 1990 to 1992. The camp no longer exists—it has since been transformed into a gold mine.
Looking at the picture, I believe it was captured during an administrative inspection by the 3rd Brigade HQ, probably around lunchtime. You can spot me on the far left.
Interestingly, the only brother officer in the photo who is still in service is Lt. Razali, who has since risen through the ranks to become Lt. Gen. Datuk Mohd Razali Alias, Director General of the Malaysia Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO). I’m not certain when he transitioned from the Renjer Corps to the Intelligence Corps, but it’s remarkable to see how far he has come.
